He's been getting a lot of slam love this month so it was only fittin Tomy Bewick won December's slam. But he had some tough competition...
It felt like a night of veteran spoken word artistry. Amanda Hiebert came at us with a funny poem about her boyfriend, Britta B dropped the heavy with a piece on domestic abuse, PAN made us laugh with his trademark piece on geek coitus, Arianna told us about her Singapore adventures, and Ritallin delivered a pitch-perfect performance of his machete smile poem.
When the third round came around, it was Tomy and Ritallin and Britta B. battling it out for a bye into the semis. Taking the final poem of that round, Tomy dropped his acronym piece and took five 10s, yes, five 10s! We'll be seeing Tomy at the Semifinals in March.
Our feature made his Canadian debut on the Drake stage, and Deonte Osayande did not disappoint. The Detroit poet showed his range by slaying it with poignant poems on poverty, love, youth and much more. He's definitely worth checking out if you make it to Michigan sometime.
Our next slam is on a Sunday, so see you JANUARY 8 at the Drake for the first TPS of 2012!
